Enhanced Caller ID Instructions
Enhanced Caller ID identifies the name and telephone number from which an
incoming call or a call waiting call originates. It takes the mystery out of
who's calling by combining the functionality of Caller ID with that of Call
Waiting.
Enhanced Caller ID provides key caller information that may be a competitive
advantage for your small business. You can use it to identify high priority
calls (even when you are already on the phone), so you can make informed
decisions for superior time management. If you're unable to answer the phone,
you can use the calling information to electronically build your own client
database - allowing you to more efficiently target your products and services.
The calling name and number are displayed on special Call Waiting ID capable
equipment (i.e., telephone, adjunct box, etc.). This unit is purchased
separately from the Enhanced Caller ID service that you ordered from BellSouth.
You cannot utilize Enhanced Caller ID without this unit.
After your display unit has been properly connected (see the installation
instructions provided with your unit), and your Enhanced Caller ID service has
been connected by BellSouth, the calling name and telephone number for each
incoming call will be displayed between the first and second ring of your
telephone.
Enhanced Caller ID service works only on directly dialed calls between phone
lines that have the service capability, and only between central offices that
can transmit Caller ID information. Some long distance calls may not display the
name and telephone number of the calling party.
There may be times when your display unit shows various messages or symbols
in addition to, or in place of, the calling name and number. As an example, some
callers may block the delivery of their name and telephone number, preventing
them from appearing on your display unit. These blocked calls may appear as
"Private" or "Anonymous" in your display unit. For an
explanation of these messages or symbols please see the owner's manual that was
provided with your unit.
Public and semi-public telephones will display "Payphone", but
business owned payphones may display the name of the business. For new telephone
numbers, the number will be displayed but the name will not be displayed until
the name is in the BellSouth database. The telephone number is displayed while
the receiver is on-hook or when a call waiting tone has been heard.
